JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for leading others and laying and binding building materials, such as bricks, structural tile, concrete block, cinder block, etc. with mortar.

REPORTS TO:       Superintendent or Foreman

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Estimates material and labor necessary for jobs.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams; follows oral instructions as needed.
  • Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned and requisitions materials as needed.
  • Measures distances from reference points and marks guidelines on working surface to prepare work area.
  • Mixes and spreads mortar that serves as a base and binder for block.
  • Lays bricks, blocks, or tiles in construction or repair of structures.
  • Performs concrete placement, including flatwork, footings and walls.
  • Operates brick saw and other equipment necessary to perform job.
  • Determines vertical and horizontal alignment of courses.
  • Leads and oversees helpers and laborers.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform general cleanup at job sites. Assist in various laborer duties as assigned to ensure success of job.
  • Accomplishes all other duties and tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong math aptitude.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Initiative and ability to self-direct work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
